On Monday, October 13, Mariam Mikadze, an alumna from the class of 2013 of the American Academy and a Doctor of Medicine, visited the American Academy.
Mariam is currently a psychiatry resident at Saint Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, D.C., where she is involved in clinical practice and research. Her research focuses on Adoption and Trauma-Informed Care, a field that explores the psychological impact of early trauma and the importance of supportive care systems.
During her visit, Mariam led a discussion "The Art of Mental Health," where she spoke about her journey from the Academy to medical school at Tbilisi State Medical University, and her current role in the U.S. healthcare system. She offered insights into the evolving understanding of mental health, the importance of empathy in medicine, and how trauma-informed approaches are changing psychiatric care.
we would like to thank Mariam for such an interesting meeting.
