Guest Speaker, Eka Asatiani
April 10, 2024
On April 3, the American Academy hosted a guest speaker, Eka Asatiani. The topic of the meeting was “Arresting Waste and Promoting Circularity in Waste Management.”
The guest speaker discussed with students the importance of environmental protection, focusing on waste management. This included discussions on recycling polyethylene bags, plastic bottles, and advertising banners, offering them a renewed life. Additionally, she emphasized the impact of environmental contamination on soil and food safety.
Eka Asatiani presented her small pieces of art—bags, hats, raincoats, and other accessories—that she created from plastic waste.
In 2019, Eka Asatiani created the social enterprise Plasticwatcher.ge. The enterprise's main focus is collecting, recycling, and sustainably reusing household plastic waste while creating environmentally friendly products. The philosophy behind her work is the protection of the environment from waste.
Plasticwatcher.ge has received multiple awards, including being selected as a finalist in the Italian competition at www.guiltlessplastic.com. Eka’s creations were exhibited in Milan, marking the start of their global journey. Her handcrafted pieces have since traveled to various destinations, including America, Italy, and the UK, to name a few.
We would like to thank Eka Asatiani for an interesting and engaging meeting.
